Common Questions
Some Things Families Often Ask
We have set out some of the questions we hear most often. If yours is not here, please feel free to write or call.
When is the right time to arrange a succession consultation?
There is no single right time. Some people prefer to arrange matters while they are well and unhurried; others come to us following a bereavement. Both are equally welcome. What matters is that the process suits your circumstances.
What documents will I need to bring to the first meeting?
For an initial consultation, there is no fixed list. Bringing whatever you have to hand — identification, any existing documents, notes on what you would like to discuss — is enough. We will guide you through anything else as we go.
How long does the estate administration process typically take in Malaysia?
Timelines vary depending on the complexity of the estate, the number of beneficiaries, and the type of assets involved. Straightforward matters may resolve within a few months; more involved estates can take longer. We will give you a clearer picture once we understand your situation.
Are your fees fixed, and will there be additional costs?
Our service fees are set out clearly from the start. Where third-party disbursements — such as court fees or stamp duties — apply, we will explain these before they are incurred. There are no unexpected charges.
Can you assist if the estate involves both Muslim and non-Muslim beneficiaries?
Yes. Malaysian inheritance law involves both civil and Syariah considerations depending on the religion of the deceased and the beneficiaries. We are experienced in matters that span these frameworks and will walk you through the relevant process with care.
How is my family's information kept private?
All information shared with us is held in strict confidence under our professional obligations and Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010. Your family's affairs are not discussed with anyone outside the engagement without your consent.
